"You Do Not Belong In Canada"
I am 54 years old + I still am being told I have to buy my acceptance in this country??
I am so very done with progressive politics. I am so very done with this bullying. I am so done with being told I do not belong because I reject the dominant group thinking. This sound clip was recorded in a classroom in Londonderry School in Edmonton, Alberta. I am very angry and upset and I will leave the clip and the transcript without any further comment at this time. I will ponder intelligent commentary today.
This clip is of a teacher bullying a Muslim student in the classroom because of his religious practise wrt Pride in schools. How is this inclusive? How do Muslims feel safe from attacks on their person?
Anyone who schooled me on integrity a few months ago, now would be your opportunity to show us “moral courage,” if that was ever really anything other than a brand.
Yeah I’m angry. Sometimes it’s called for. I am not a people pleaser.
Well, I'll tell you, you are out to lunch if you think it's acceptable to not show up, because you think if there's some pride activities going on at school, right? Oh, that's fine, because I'm going to show my opinion by hanging out at the mall. But meanwhile, all those kids who are involved in, say, the gay-straight alliance or whatever, I don't even know if we have that anymore in our school.
They're here when we did Ramadan for [inaudible] time, and they're showing respect to the class for your religion, right? For your beliefs. It goes two ways. If you want to be respected for who you are, if you don't want to suffer prejudice for your religion, your colour of skin, your whatever, then you better give it back to people who are different from you.
That's how it works. It's an exchange.
And it isn't like that in all countries, as I told you in Uganda, literally, if they think you’re gay, they will execute you. If you believe that kind of thing, then you don't belong here, because that is not what Canada believes.
We believe in freedom. We believe that people can marry whomever they want.
That is in the law.
And if you don't think that should be the law, you can't be Canadian. You don't belong here. And I mean it. I really mean it. And it's not a joke, Mansur. I said back and forth. You want it, you got to give it.
It just makes me angry. Sorry.
I'm also pretty tired of the progressive+ stuff and that teacher's outburst is appalling, but it does raise an interesting question, when you have schools with people from all over and every religion. People following religion A may well find certain aspects of religion B distasteful, wrong, etc, and vice versa - so do they opt out of any event or book or whatever has to do with that religion? (It probably applies to more than religion, but that's the most obvious example).
That was a very bigoted, bullying, power – tripping, intolerant, inappropriate and unprofessional tirade.
A teacher has no professional or moral right to tell those students what they should do. Canadians have freedom of religion and freedom of association and freedom of speech. That was a ham handed, over the top attempt at struggle – session style indoctrination.
It was full of false equivalencies and false and inaccurate information. The school puts up decorations and decides to make a space for prayer on a particular day in no way obligates any student to participate, nor does it obligate any participating student to participate in some other activity.
No Muslim student could or should feel safe in a classroom with that teacher again. No student with views different than hers could feel safe. She is utterly unfit for any classroom.
