Pork became "unclean" as a ritual animal because it is a husbandry of lower urban classes. Pigs are extraordinarily efficient protein factories for the bottom of society because they turn garbage into meat. They were excluded from sacrifices for the same reason.
Loved this one. I adore bacon too, because of course I would, being Jewish and growing up in a kosher home, I lived for the thrill of baconburgers *outside* the home (so i can also relate to HIndus who don't eat beef at home, sacred space, but eat it outside.) Every Sunday night, it was Chinatown for - especially - those barbq pork end thingies, omg. And the entire place filled with Jews who kept kosher at home.
