identitarians aren’t serious historians
Yesterday I saw a piece about Louisa Alcott, implying that she was trans and it’s another piece of writing we didn’t need about a thing no rational emotionally intelligent person cares about—in a series of them. The favourite meaningless pastime of progressives—whom we really ought to rename regressive in the interests of reality—is to project a modern Wokerati identity onto a known historical figure.
Because today is Christmas Day, the cult of Palestinian nationalism is out in full force promoting their propaganda—they have rebranded Jesus as a Palestinian Jew from Nazareth. Branding is a thing these days and activists are getting on the bandwagon. Even when they claim to be anti-imperialists—can we talk about how that’s a dog whistle for materialism?
There was no Palestinians in the time of Jesus. That was a Roman-governed Israel, and Nazareth was a Jewish village in Israel. Jesus never cared about the Zionist political struggle for power in His time, what makes anyone think He would care about the Arab struggle of our modern time? One word: EGO. Jesus wasn’t about kingdoms of this world—he was a mystic not a warrior.
Jesus never considered Himself in the context of any nationalism. He wasn’t here for ego and its endeavours, He was here to show humans a different way to have a relationship with themselves. Jesus came here to teach us love. Is using the image of a Jewish man to promote animosity towards Jews really the spirit of love? Seriously, can we stop with the scapegoating of Jews thing? I can tell you, as someone raised a devout Catholic who sat through far too many of those awful Passion of Christ Easter church sagas, that I am over it, okay, mupppets? Find a new target.
So—projecting a nationalist identity or any kind of modern race onto Jesus and showing all these images of His likeness, why are Muslims doing this? Remember that Muslims lose their literal sh1t when there’s a slightest whiff of a visual representation of Muhammad and yet they seem to feel quite entitled to surmise what Jesus looks like to promote their pet nationalist cause? Why? Did we forget that the Borgia Pope decided Jesus should look like Cesaré Borgia? Y’all wanna be like that, huh? Okay whatever floats your boat I guess. That ain’t God Consciousness though.
Anyway, I don’t need to remind anyone what happened to Samuel Paty, Charlie Hebdo, or any number of others who were terrorized and murdered for a displaying a visual image of Muhammad. So I’ll spare you those stories about stuff you already know and share some other stories you might now know.
You might not know that Mustafa Akyol, a Turkish Muslim scholar and author, was arrested and detained for 18 hours in Malaysia on his Islam Without Extremes book tour in 2017. His father, a prominent Turkish public intellectual, Taha Akyol, pulled strings to secure Mustafa’s release. Apparently, according to the police chief, Mustafa was detained because he did not have the right religious credentials to give lectures on Islamic topics. Mustafa made the “mistake” of teaching Qur’an 2:256, there can be no compulsion in religion, and this angered the Malaysian authorities. Yes, the word of God offended the Malaysian government.
Do we have a word for a religious extremist who is offended by the word of God?
Very recently in MN state, an instructor lost their job for supposed “Islamophobia”, over the displaying of an ancient Persian painting of Muhammad. When an Islamic Studies professor decided to write about it in the university paper, the essay was removed two days later, and the day after that The President of Hamline University sent a message to all employees stating that respect for the observant Muslim students in that classroom should have superseded academic freedom. A Muslim student is offended by a painting of Muhammad, the founder of her religion, and also Muslims are trying to tell Christians that the founder of their religion, Jesus, was a Palestinian Jew, in order to promote their pro-Arab cause?
So no one can reform Islam, unless on pain of terror, getting fired, arrested, or dying. Yet, any radical Muslims can project and inject all sorts of propagandist nonsense onto and into other religions because why?
If you are offended by freedom of religious thought, freedom of belief, or by a fcuking ancient painting of a religious prophet, then you might be a malignant narcissist, you are choosing ego over God, and you are definitely NOT a victim of hatred. Humans are victims of hatred, not the ideas or beliefs or identities they hold sacred.
Have you noticed how Catholics are able to respond in a non-plussed, emotionally intelligent manner about rebranded visual images of Jesus, the founder of the Catholic faith? Notice how Catholics aren’t getting anyone fired, decapitated, putting Pegasus spyware on mobile devices of dissidents to track them, or terrorising anyone to the point of needing police protection—for perceived offences against their faith and religious figures?
Why do Muslims have double standards? Who thinks this is fair + balanced? Using a prophet of God, the Messiah, to promote an egoistic human end? Really? Nah. I know you’re all having a lot of fun with ex-Muslims and I’m happy for you all, however, some of us are here, inside the house, trying to effect change, because we know the call is coming from inside the house. Are you ready to help freedom-loving practising Muslims push back on radical Islam yet? When will you be ready? I think it’s time we made personal responsibility in vogue again as a way to challenge the growing problem of extreme thinking in human society.
Merry Christmas everyone!
