Israel Bans the “Palestinian” Flag
the story behind the flag we are calling the “Palestinian” flag
First things first. Tacos. Because priorities. Tuesdays rule because Taco Tuesday! Did you eat the tacos today? Is it even Tuesday if you didn’t eat the tacos??? Muh Tacos Forever. Seriously, I could eat a taco a day.
Dear leftists, you will not be able to twist. Freedom of speech - yes. on full Waving terrorist flags - no. Waving Nazi symbols - no. Violation of the order and road blocks contrary to the law - no. A law is a law and it applies to everyone.
—Itamar Ben Gvir, Israeli Minister of National Security
So, Itamar Ben Gvir banned the Palestinian flag, and the world is losing it’s sh1t over that very bold decision. Accusations involving the words Nazi + fascist have made the rounds on Twitter as the rage farming kicks up into high gear. The PLO had adopted the Sykes flag of the Arab Revolt as its own in 1964, and it remained illegal in Israel (as a sign of terrorism) until 1993, when it became the official flag of the Palestinian Authority, which came into being upon the signing of the Oslo Accord. Once the state of Israel signed the Oslo Accord, it officially recognised The Palestinian Authority, and removed the moratorium on the Sykes flag.
Interestingly, the Palestinian flag actually represents guerrilla warfare. What else do you call it when an imperial power [in this particular case, Britain] incites + sponsors the people of a rival colonial power to revolt? Do you call that liberation? I don’t. I call it colonialism.
Did you know that, in 1916, British diplomat Colonel Mark Sykes designed the flag we now call the Palestinian flag to add an Arab nationalist flavour to the British-sponsored Arab Revolt which the Hashemite King led against the Ottomans? Should I repeat that? The Palestinian flag was designed by a British diplomat who was working on a secret deal with the French (Sykes-Picot) to carve up Ottoman lands. Sykes derived inspiration from the flags of Arabian caliphs in designing his flag, he created a few prototypes and the Hashemite King chose the final design.
So, pray tell, how does a flag created in 1916 by a British aristocrat as part of a strategy to destabilise the Ottoman empire suddenly come to represent anti-European + anti-colonial Arab-Palestinian liberation in 2022? What happened in 104 years to transform a WW1 Game of Thrones-type imperial-led guerrilla warfare into a freedom fighting movement? I mean aside from short memory and propaganda?
I have questions.
How could Arab liberation ever come from a British-sponsored insurrection against the Turks?
What if Arabs only need liberation from their D1cktopian leadership and their Inner Assholism?
Why should Israel tolerate a powerful symbol of the modern guerrilla warfare in its geographic borders?
Why does Arab nationalism and the silly dream of a pan-Arab state in the Middle East need to be my concern as a Muslim? (It doesn’t and it isn’t)
How well does the propaganda machine work though, huh? Like, we have a mob of left-wing progressives screaming fascism and lobbing accusations of apartheid + Nazi in response to an Israeli government decision to ban a flag that’s historically linked to guerrilla warfare and terrorist uprising by rabid Jew-haters?
Seriously, self-preservation has now become hateful fascism? How so?
So, the state of Israel has decided to retaliate against the Palestinian Authority for it’s push to get an international ruling on the 55-year long Israeli occupation of the West Bank. The Sykes flag ban sets the tone for this new administration. Whether we like right wing nationalism or not, whether we like Bibi and Ben Gvir or not—we must admit that conditions in Israel-Palestine have stagnated. In my entire life Israel has not had peace with the Jew-hating Arab nationalists. The definition of madness is repeating the same mistakes and expecting a different result.
“First,” Husseini recommended, “the movement should gain control of the West Bank and Gaza Strip. . . . Next it should use this land as a base for destroying Israel.” It took some time, but this is exactly the strategy Arafat pursued at Oslo. And as recently as 2013, the current head of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, praised Husseini as a “pioneer.”1
How do Israelis negotiate peace with a people represented by a disingenuous leadership that wants to destroy Jews? Seriously, how to tolerate someone who wants to disappear you? AYFKM? What if the media did it’s job and reported the facts of the situation, rather than emotionally manipulate to prey on the good will of unsuspecting Westerners and rage farm the sh1t out of us?
I don’t have any clever solutions, only unsettling observations.

Natively-designed near eastern flags tended to be written during this period, like the Saudi Arabian flag. Western vexillology is a dead giveaway.
