CBC News Bias on Puberty Blockers
13 critical failures in the cbc news coverage of puberty blockers
In my quest to document the puberty blockers medical scandal in Canada, I decided to take a serious analytical look at the cbc news coverage of puberty blockers. I decided to break the work up into time chunks, with 2024 coverage being first.
This matters to me, since the CBC is publicly funded, therefore accountable to Canadians, and it does not behave like it’s accountable to Canadians.
Research Question: Does CBC News Coverage of “puberty blockers” meet journalistic standards?
Abstract: I went to the CBC News site and searched “puberty blockers” and received hundreds of hits in the search results, 16 hits dated 2024. Of these 16 hits, several ended up being duplicates, I noticed the stories about Conservative gender policy changes appeared in duplicate, sporting evocative emotionally-based non-neutral headlines such as Poilievre says he's against puberty blockers for transgender children.
In fact of the 16 search results hits for 2024 on “puberty blockers” 8 were about Poilievre’s position on puberty blockers, 5 were on Premier Smith’s policy changes, 3 were to convey information to Canadians about the facts of the issue. Of the 8 Poilievre search results, half were duplicates. Of the 5 Premier Smith search results, 3 were duplicates. All stories I analysed failed to meet journalistic standards, as outlined by CBC at the end of each story.
Below are 13 initial observations I have after nearly completing my analysis.
Here are 13 initial conclusions I have about the CRITICAL FAILURE of the coverage I just watched and continue to poured over.
Allowing the statement that a male who has achieved full sexual maturity has no physical advantage over a female.
Allowing the insinuation that any mental health benefits a male derives from invading female spaces and taking opportunities from young competitive females athletes makes the violation of female rights acceptable.
Allowing the statement and viewpoint that a child’s natural sexual development is harmful to the child’s health and even a threat to his/her life.
Allowing the insinuation that puberty is a disease in need of a pharmaceutical and surgical remedy.
Allowing the outright LIE that Lupron is a paediatric suicide prophylaxis.
Allowing the outright LIE that Lupron is safe and without permanent harmful effects that make its use very very questionable and specific.
Allowing the outright LIE that GAHT and GAC are suicide prophylaxes and that alternative clinical approaches including watchful waiting will harm the child by increasing suicide risk.
Refusing to provide a balanced and honest and accurate coverage of the gender issue.
Repeatedly platforming individuals with a known radical bias toward sex denialism and who favour a queerified culture embodying anti-parent and anti family and anti attachment rhetoric.
Repeatedly refusing to platform (i) any reality based experts to provide a sound clinical alternative to gender affirmation, (ii) detransitioners to provide a perspective about post transition regret, or (iii) parents who have suffered because schools socially transitioned their kids in secret.
A misrepresentation and dismissal of the Cass Review
A complete journalistic failure to cover the Tavistock scandal.
A complete journalistic failure to cover the Keira Bell story of regret and lawsuit against the NHS.
